TOP SEEDS FULFORD, CLARKE, MULLINER, BAMFORD
REACH QUARTER-FINALS AFTER THREE ROUNDS OF PLAY

David Maugham, Steve Comish, Mark Avery, and Jeff Dawson are the top seeds who have been knocked out in the first three rounds of play in the British Open, while a quartet of pre-tournament favorites have gone on to compete in the quarter-finals.
Still playing in seeded positions, Robert Fulford, Chris Clarke, Stephen Mulliner and Reg Bamford meet lower ranked opponents in the four two-out-of-three matches that comprise the quarter finals.
Hanging in the balance is not only the satisfaction of winning the most prestigious croquet annual in Britain, but also the celebrity of achieving the number one position in the world rankings. World champion Chris Clarke recently edged ahead of Robert Fulford, who has long dominated the top rank. Currently, so few points separate the four leaders of the rankings that a single tournament can cause a shift in positions.
